    The Institute on General Education and Assessment (IGEA) provides campus teams with opportunities to refine and advance general education programs and their assessment. The Institute conveys a deep and abiding commitment to ensuring that access to excellence in higher education is available to all students, striving towards a vision of education that is energized by students’ multiple and intersecting identities. This vision of education committed to making the inextricable synergy between quality and equity the standard for excellence in undergraduate educational practice. During the Institute, teams will explore designing equity-minded approaches to integrating general education with the major, demonstrating the centrality of general education in connecting student learning with critical social issues that matter to students and society, and tjhat are intentionally aligned with the essential learning outcomes identified through AAC&U’s LEAP (Liberal Education and America’s Promise) initiative.

  • GDP: Step onto the Board

    Successful culture change begins at the top of an organisation, and while the gender balance within these roles is now starting to be addressed, there is still some way to go. In a diverse and competitive world, it is essential to bring the best talent to our boards regardless of characteristics such as race, gender, disability or social background. Women leaders make a significant contribution to the HE sector and we are committed to addressing and improving gender balance at a leadership level, including breaking down the barriers for women to enter the boardroom.

    Step onto the board was piloted in June 2018 as part of the Board Diversification Project at Advance HE, commissioned by HEFCE, HEFCW and the Department for the Economy in Northern Ireland, to support greater diversity within higher education boards. The workshop was designed based on feedback from Advance HE’s Women onto Boards alumni that suggested further support for those considering a board appointment was wanted in order to develop the right profile and skills.

  • Webinar – Well-Being and Equity

    This webinar is part of a Bringing Theory to Practice (BTtoP) project on the links between student well-being and educational equity. Academic research and campus practice have emphasized the importance of well-being as a condition of student success and a core goal of educating the whole student. In recent years, the importance of student well-being as an equity imperative has become more and more evident, often due to the advocacy and activism of students themselves. What does it mean to place support for student flourishing at the center of the equity agenda? What does it mean to place equity, diversity, and inclusion at the heart of our understanding of student well-being? This webinar will explore both questions, with a focus on students whose experience of marginality often undermines their success and thriving: students of color, first-generation students, low-income students, and adult working students.
